Orbital ATK is currently seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the Research and Development organization at our Propulsion Systems Division (PSD).
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Director of Research and Development (R&D) reports directly to the Sr. Director of Science & Engineering and will lead a team of approximately 70 scientists, engineers, and technicians of diverse scientific and engineering disciplines. The position is located at the Utah Promontory facility but also has engineering responsibility at the Utah Bacchus facility. The organization provides in depth material and process characterization expertise and chemical/physical analysis for developmental and production programs, and develops and demonstrates new and novel materials and processes, materials characterization technologies, and pre-production items. Technology areas include solid rocket motor components and materials, pyrotechnics, explosives, warheads, gun propellants, ingredient synthesis, metallurgy, ordnance, composites, C-C materials, coatings, adhesives, elastomers, aging and surveillance, and non-destructive evaluation (NDE).
Responsibilities include:
Maintain laboratories that perform a) chemical, thermal, and physical analysis of inert and energetic materials; b) compatibility testing of energetic materials; d) small-scale propellant burn rate and closed bomb testing; c) small-scale inert and energetic materials synthesis; and d) metallurgical characterization including scanning electron microscopy and corrosion testing.
Champion and mentor for Safety of personnel, hardware, facilities, and equipment.
Develop, communicate and implement vision, strategy, goals and metrics to achieve business objectives for safety, quality, customer satisfaction, schedule, cost, and continuous improvement.
Represent and communicate R&D technical capabilities and technologies to internal and external customers. As requested, present at program technical reviews, proposal reviews, or other technical meetings.
Utilize effective talent management strategies to attract, retain, develop and engage outstanding people for the organization.
Ensure staffing needs are fulfilled and programs are appropriately resourced.
Monitor and implement employee development plans.
Ensure leadership and key subject matter expert succession plans are in place and be proactive by coaching and mentoring key talent to assume increased responsibilities.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with other technical PSD organizations including Test and Research Operations, Process Engineering, and the other groups in Science & Engineering.
Manage material and labor budgets.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Five or more years in a leadership position as well at least 10-15 years of related experience in a science and engineering technology development role.
BS/MS degree in Engineering or Technical discipline
Experience Preferred:
Ph.D. in technical discipline

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
