Orbital ATK is currently seeking an experienced Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering team in our Promontory, Utah offices.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Senior Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for development of requirements, verification planning and change integration for our major systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading and developing new systems and system upgrades by managing requirements and integrated changes in a disciplined, broad reaching process, to ensure our systems perform to specification and satisfy every customer need.
Job Duties:
Determine system needs and translate into verifiable performance and design requirements for solid rocket propulsion systems
Evaluate all customer requirements and flow down into lower level specifications and take the lead to determine implementation approach into designs and manufacturing
Determine and assess verification (test, analysis, inspection) for all requirement
Manage requirements and verification approach in requirements management database
Work closely with customer and stakeholders to evaluate results of verification processes and validate results against system requirements and needs
Integrate customer directed changes into the system and facilitate implementation of changes within a change management system
Coordinate and communicate with all stakeholders, including customers, all things related to requirements, implementation of requirements and verification, and resolution of problems and issues
Work on design and system trades to identify solutions to multi-variable problems, balancing all other considerations like cost, schedule and reliability
Lead pursuit of engineering design solutions to satisfy all system requirements
Experience Requirements: A qualified candidate for this position should have some experience relevant to this position, including:
Minimum of 10 years of experience working in an engineering discipline area such as Mechanical or Aerospace or a field related to Systems Engineering, preferably in a government contractor environment
Exposure and familiarity with a requirements management database tool or other systems engineering tool, preferably directly using the tool
Experience in engineering design and project management, developing designs through to production
Experience Preferred: A candidate qualified for this position should have some level of experience in:
Planning and execution of a development project in a Project Engineering or Program Management capacity
Project management planning, scheduling and budgeting using an Earned Value Management System tools and approach
Leading a development project, particularly a project requiring integration of products originating from multiple engineering disciplines
Development and management of interface control methods and management of interfaces
Familiarity with requirement sets and system architectural approach necessary for spaceflight systems (ordnance, high reliability electronics, thrust vector control, flight safety systems)
Use and implementation of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches in characterization of a system
Understanding and familiarity with space flight and rocket propulsion design
Skills & Qualifications: A candidate qualified for this position should have the following demonstrated skills and experience:
A broad understanding of product development processes
Strong experience in Mechanical or Propulsion design
Strong knowledge of Mil-Std-961 specification guidelines
Strong working knowledge of configuration management tools and practices
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong drive to continuous improve
MS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Engineering Management or related field is required. Consideration will be given to candidates with a BS degree in Engineering or Physics with strong relevant experience
A graduate certificate or advanced degree in Systems Engineering is preferred
BS/MS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Engineering Management required.
B.S. degree in with 10 years experience, MS with 7 years of experience, or PhD with 5 years of experience.
Position may be filled at a lower level (Principal Mechanical Engineer)
BS/MS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Engineering Management required.
MS degree with 5 years experience, BS degree with 7 years experience, or PhD with 2 years of experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
